Terminal Servers

Terminal Server is the server part of the Windows Terminal services. Sounds simple enough. But what is does it not simple, and how it does it is nothing short of fascinating. It handles authenticating clients while making applications available remotely. This is hand in hand with cloud services and remote accessibility. It also manages the access rights of clients, depending on the privileges set.

Once you gain access to an account, that access is called a session. Sessions can be started and stopped at will, and can even be continued if interrupted (internet drops out, changing of Wi-Fi, etc). Terminal Servers can be used in a group of machines called a “cluster”, so you can gain from the combined resources offered by them all.

User credentials can be carried over, such as administrators will be able to see and do everything they normally would be able to directly on their own PC and so would every other user.

If you simply want to restrict access to just a single program once a user logs in, you are able to configure that as well. No desktop or anything else, just the one application. This is great for corporate networks, call centers, individual departments, you name it. All of this can also be provided through a simple web browser as well, so you do not need any extra programs to accomplish this since practically every computer has a web browser these days.

If the above scenarios and great benefits sound good to you, why not consider implementing them on your network. No network is too big nor too small to benefit from the amazing advantages that Terminal Server offers.
