Business-class PCs & Software vs. Home

It is true, especially in the case of home-based businesses, that many PCs and system configurations intended for home use will work in a small business environment, but if you are not using a PC created with the intention of accommodating business needs, you could be short changing yourself with your computer’s abilities.

For example, accounting, word processing and spreadsheets are important for a business. Whether it is opening the application for them, or just storing them securely, many home-based PCs are not the most optimal way of using them. Traditional mechanical hard drives will work for a long time, but are prone to dust, heat and other environmental damage, not the least of which is accidentally kicking or bumping a PC while it is being used. This can potentially cause irreparable damage. How do you fix this? Using an SSD (Solid State Device) drive. Very little heat, very small, no moving parts to bump and super fast. Sounds good!

Of course, writing up that invoice might have worked simpler under a program like Notepad or Wordpad, but the big guys use the big word processors for their letterheads and correspondence, and use MYOB and/or QuickBooks for their accounting. These offer many other great features just by themselves, such as customer search and inventory tracking. The huge benefits from those differences alone are ones you can take to the bank!

You will also need more system memory in order to run these better suited programs. You do not want your customers waiting around for their invoice when they have more important things to do just because you are waiting for your program to load and print.
