Network Patch Panels, Jacks

A network patch panel, or patch bay, is typically seen in datacenters and are rack mounted (See Datacenters, Server Closets). They house cable connections and are a central point for getting all your cables into one place to be routed to the nearest switch and/or router.

When it comes down to it, a network patch panel is the foundation for building a network from the ground up. It’s like building a road and traffic system and having a piece of land allocated for all the roads to go on. That is the patch panel, and the jacks are the on and off ramps.
